Fire closes Plantation House Restaurant in Kapalua | News, Sports, Jobs

The Plantation House Restaurant in Kapalua was closed Thursday after a fire Wednesday night that caused an estimated $600,000 in damages.

The fire was reported at 9 p.m. while the restaurant was open for business, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga. All guests and employees were evacuated.

Fire crews from Napili, Lahaina and Kahului responded to the fire at the restaurant on Plantation Club Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 5-by-5-foot section of the roof on fire at the clubhouse and also fire in the attic area, Mainaga said.

The fire was under control at 10:30 p.m. and extinguished at 1 a.m. Thursday, he said.

Damages were estimated at $500,000 to the structure and $100,000 to its contents. No injuries were reported. The fire’s cause remained under investigation.
