NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) has created the most detailed view yet of the far side of the Moon. The photo, which was released along with a flood of other data from the spacecraft in mid-March, is actually a mosaic of thousands of different lunar far side images taken by the LRO’s Wide Angle Camera. The new picture provides the most complete look at the history and composition of the Moon’s far side to date, and should serve as a valuable resource for the scientific community, researchers said.

A Kremlin-installed official in southern Ukraine admitted Tuesday that Russian forces have withdrawn from the village of Robotyne more than a week after Kyiv announced its recapture. “The Russian army abandoned — tactically abandoned this settlement,” said Yevgeny Balitsky, the Russian-appointed governor of Ukraine’s occupied Zaporizhzhia region. Ukraine, which launched a grinding counteroffensive in June, announced Robotyne’s recapture on Aug. 28. Balitsky maintained that abandoning Robotyne would benefit Russian forces and claimed that the village “ceased to exist” after lengthy battles.
